End of Life/Support

End of Life (EOL)

The end of life of a specific version means that the version is no longer available for purchase:

  • New licenses can’t be purchased
  • New environments can’t be deployed
  • Feature requests are no longer provided based on this version

Support is provided for this version and includes:

  • Incidents management
  • Implementer support
  • Security patches - including SBOM updates per FDA regulations
  • SLA is provided for the version

Note that it is possible that, due to infrastructure considerations, some security updates, bug fixes, and features will require a version upgrade even though the version is still active and not in the EOL state.

End of Support (EOS)

End of support means the version is no longer under active support, and support services are no longer available for it. Using this version may result in security and data integrity risks.

Support services that are no longer provided include and are not limited to:

  • Incident management
  • Implementer support and help desk
  • Security updates
  • SLA is no longer relevant for this version

End of support status also means that the version is in EOL status.

Version Naming Conventions

BioT versions are marked as x.y.z with the following implications:

  • The z digit indicates a minor version - this may include bug fixes as well as new features that are usually an evolution of an existing module
  • The y digit indicates a major version - this includes major features that can be new modules as well as  infrastructure changes
  • The z digit indicates a new generation and new technology - usually, this will mean a new product line

EOL/EOS is managed at the major version level (y digit). All z-digit versions inherit the EOL/EOS status of the major version. I.e. versions 2.2.10, 2.2.11 inherit the EOL/EOS status of version 2.2.

EOL/EOS Policy

BioT's policy provides EOL notice at least 6 months in advance and EOS notice at least 18 months in advance. Usually, EOL and EOS notices are sent together - i.e., version 2.2 is EOL in 6 months and EOS in 18 months.
